Inner peace for the age of anxiety

We live in a world that keeps our minds restless and reaching, where peace always seems one thought away. But being at peace does not require anything of you. Only your thoughts do.

Why these books exist

You were never broken. You do not have to become anything to find yourself.

None of this came out of study. It came out of years of deepening into stillness inside an ordinary life: work, a family, long dark winters in northern Finland. There is no method in these books, no retreat and no teacher to follow. They are written to be returned to rather than finished, and they point at the stillness that was here before your mind started speaking.

"I'm embarrassed to admit how many nonduality themed books I have read, but this is among my all-time favorites. His writing is clear and compelling."

A man is given three months to live, walks out of the hospital and follows a dream to a fishing village, where an old man under a coconut tree asks him one question. A short novel about the end of mind-made suffering, and the peace that was underneath it all along. If you read one of my books, read this one first.

7 Days of Presence

The course

7 Days of Presence

Seven days, seven doors: attention, silence, acceptance, now, the self, forgiveness, rest. Each day brings a short teaching, a few questions to sit with, and one line to carry. Read it, or listen to me read it. Nothing to achieve, nothing to keep up.

Contemplations

Short essays I drew from the books, for the days when your mind speaks so loudly that you cannot hear yourself.

Around a thousand pages, one message.

I wrote seven books and a course over five years, from the same quiet place. They keep returning to three sentences:

  • You were never broken.
  • Nothing must ever be done.
  • Peace is what remains when the mind falls quiet.

Readers come for stress and anxiety and stay because the writing asks nothing of them. Read a page a day, or listen to the audiobooks in my voice. They are available only here.

"What I loved is the honest account of one man's journey to the power of now. The struggles and the peace are both narrated with vivid language."

"Some time after the course, I find myself coming back to the themes daily. And when I do, I always feel this sensation of calmness. I would recommend this to anyone."
~Jonathan on 7 Days of Presence

Written from an ordinary life in northern Finland. Not a guru, not a method.

Jussi Niittyviita in a fur-hooded parka in the northern Finnish winter

I am Jussi Niittyviita. I have a job, a family and a constantly commenting mind, like you. The books began when the suffering that mind produced became impossible to ignore, and I started writing down what I found when I stopped fighting it.

I do not teach a method or belong to a tradition. I only point at what is already here: that peace does not require anything of you, that awakening is becoming wholly ordinary rather than someone special, and that this very moment, unimproved, is the whole of it. If any of this is useful to you, that is enough.
